Helen was interested to see the aviatrixes at her dining room table where Mom Pauline served up a delicious lunch. THX for a delightful time. This is after she already flew home from Florida via Tennessee earlier this summer. Way to go Jos! ***Pat Crocker gets back in the saddle again! Pat enjoyed a buzz around Long Point and yes……..there really are over 100 wind turbines at Port Burwell.

Condolences to Shirley Kerry with the loss of her husband in 2007. We hope to see Shirley back in the skies soon. Also, our thoughts are with Peggy Smith with the loss of George.
Air Education: * ** Ruthven Public School in Essex County enjoyed a repeat of last year’s Theory of Flight by Janet C. but this year the props were more interesting. A taxidermy Red Tailed Hawk compared well to a model airplane to see how the wings cambered and the tail (horizontal stabilizer) compare.
Pat Crocker: Air Education and/or Motivational Speaking: Oct. 17th booking for careers counselling this year. Pat spoke to a Gr 11-12 class, then to a Gr 10 class.
Jocelyn Lecluse: Theory of Flight taught to two local classes
September 20, 2007 New Members “Meet and Greet” It was a pleasure to fly-into Kitchener/Waterloo Regional CYKF to meet up with two new Maple Leaf chapter members. Anna Stromenberg stromnberg@golden.net and Eva Adams eadams@golden.net met with Karin, Sue, Jos, Janet and daughter Rachel for lunch. We were proud to show off the Gold Cup and welcome the gals into our organization. Eva, recently licensed, took delivery of her new Diamond D40 and lives in the Kitchener area. Anna is a student at U of Waterloo in the new aviation program offered just this year, and was introduced to the organization through the air cadets where she has spent many hours soaring. Her home town is Alvinston, ON which is quite close to Highgate. Welcome Ladies!
Sept. 9-15th Gold Cup Air Rally: Leamington to Boulder, CO On Sunday Sept. 9th, after a sleepover in Leamington at the Homewoods Farm and Stonegate, 14 women set out on the “A Team” of this year’s GCAR. The “B Team” was held up with weather in Toronto and had to take another route. The departure was later than expected, due to rainy weather. We set out approx. 15:30 from Leamington, direct to Detroit City Centre (Coleman Young) to clear customs. Then on to Muncie, Indiana for an overnight. Monday morning was foggy so we worked on challenges at the airport, then on to Quincie, Illinois where our fuel stop ended up in another overnighter on Tuesday evening, because of rain and high wind. Wednesday morning, we were back on track and had a lovely day in Atchison, Kansas where the Ninety-Nines provided a tasty lunch, tour of Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum and the Forest of Friendship. A quick goodbye and we were on to Goodland, Kansas where part of the “B team caught up. Still, two more planes to join the flock, but they did not meet up with us until Boulder, CO. Goodland, the heartland of Kansas was another interesting sleepover and gave us a great opportunity to head out with blue skies early to get into Rocky Mountain Airport, Boulder CO before lunchtime, back on schedule. The Colorado Ninety-Nines were on hand to welcome us and provided a shuttle to the lovely Marriott Townsuites and Omni for the International Conference. The last challenges were handed in for scoring and the rest of the “B Team” finally caught up to make the group complete.
Seeing all the Ninety-Nines together in the business meeting was enlightening, especially for those who had not yet seen the professional way the organization conducts their business. Pat Prentiss, International President had command of everyone in the room. Matters were discussed, voted on and, I was proud to represent our Maple Leaf Chapter as chairman. Our own Gold Cup Air Rally banquet ended at the Omni Hotel late at night where the awards were presented. Much to our surprise, Jocelyn and I were announced the high score and winners of the Gold Cup. Again, we were very pleased and happy to represent our chapter.
Pelee Fly-In September 1st, 2007 With 62 planes attending the last, of three, pancake breakfasts on Pelee Island, there is no doubt this venue is a popular destination for aviators.
August:
Kincardine Fly-In to Meet with Janet Robertson: We were treated like queen
from the moment we arrived in Kincardine by the press eager to hear about he
Ninety-Nines. Whisked off in a couple vintage convertibles for a tour of the
area and destination at Janet’s lakefront cottage where we enjoyed lunch and a
swim in the cool Lake Huron waters. Thanks Janet and Hubby along with the
staff of Kincardine Airport for their hospitality.
July 7/07
Pelee Island Fly-in was well attended with approx 40 planes flying in for
breakfast prepared by friendly islanders. Approx. 16 young eagles enjoyed plane
rides. One fellow slept under the wing……without a tent….. This sort of joint
event gives us an opportunity to promote the Ninety-Nines with other aviators.
June 22-24th Oshawa Air Expo: The Ninety-Nines were well represented at expo thanks to FCC Suzanne Wiltshire and the FCC chapter members who answered questions and sold 99s items including the new publication: Canadian Ninety-Nines, Here and Now. Bonnie Rempel, from Windsor, enjoyed her first flight through Toronto to Oshawa via City Centre and took some great photos.
June 9th/07 24 hardy Aviators endured the bumpy school bus ride to Dayton Ohio where we learned much at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base and the largest Aviation Museum in the world. Over 300 planes are housed in hangars that include the Aviation Hall of Fame and Presidential Hangars where the Air Force 1s are displayed. Virtually every aspect of aviation, including space is represented here. This is a place for all aviators with a great gift shop that has aviation books and dvds. Another field trip may be organized as a fly-in to a nearby airport since the air force base is not for civil use. The busride was where Eva Adams and her daughter Kimmy first heard about the Ninety-Nines
June 2/07 East Canada Section Meeting, Collingwood Blue Mountain was a relaxing venue for our section meeting where we enjoyed the scenery and discussed section business. Billy Bishop Museum in Owen Sound was the recipient of the Canadian Award in Aviation. GCAR and other events were discussed. We hope to have good representation at the National Convention in Boulder, CO on Sept. 12th. The new book was released at the meeting. A wonderful job on the cover graphics by our very own Jane Atkinson-White.
May 12th/07 MLC Day Air Rally Things went pretty smoothly with seventeen planes in the rally. Ten from Brantford/Toronto/Ottawa and Seven from Windsor/Chatham/Delhi/Highgate. It is great to have such a wide area of exposure with our members spread out over southwestern Ontario. We staggered the planes with two separate briefing times so the spot landings were paced and learned a lot about organizing this sort of event. Since there was a multiple tie for first place, Bud Field, Sales from BrantAero made the call to have a draw instead of another landing contest for safety reasons. Susan Begg from Ottawa won the garmin. Other top scorers were Suzanne Wiltshire and Lauren Nelson Boutet. Thanks to Karin Williamson, Sue Burrows, Marie Spence, Mollie Richards , Jocelyn Lecluse, Joanne Desjardins and Jackie Stephens for their hard work at the event and also to John Lecluse and Geoff Richards for helping out with the scoring. Also, thanks to all Ninety-nines who participated and worked in the planning and promotion of this event. Over $700 was raised for MLC.
Winter/Spring 2007 Spring 2007 Hanover, ON Rust Remover Safety Seminar and Lunch, very informative regarding proposed changes to GTA airspace and Aging in Pilots St. Thomas: Met to organize the day air rally.
Also: Impromptu Luncheons in Goderich/Hanover and Brantford Fall 2007 Brantford Air Show, Patty Wagstaff…..
