Head Office: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma www.ninety-nines.org. The name "Ninety-nines" is derived from the original number of charter members - 99. In 1929 the first meeting was held in Long Island, NY. Our first International President was the famous Amelia Earhart. We are approximately 5,500-strong worldwide, flying in every conceivable aspect of aviation. Maple Leaf Chapter Inc., within East Canada Section, Inc., encompasses the Southwestern Ontario region and is actively fulfilling our aerospace education mandate by participating, presenting and sponsoring programs at all levels. 99s participate at Career Days by offering information on a full range of aviation-type avocations, not just "pilot" and are registered speakers with Words On Work. We have developed in-class programs correlated with regular curriculum protocols, i.e. AIR BEARS (Primary role-playing) and THEORY OF FLIGHT (intermediate-level elementary science.....a perfect fit with compulsory Grade 6 curriculum) We teach and adjudicate the Girl Guides Aviation Badge plus are pleased to arrange for teaching aids, airport tours and resources. To help prepare today's student for the unlimited horizons of aviation-oriented career opportunities, we endorse a full spectrum of maths and sciences, plus other well-rounded interests. Ninety-Nines are active within the flying community and promote the enhancement of skills through safety-oriented seminars and courses. We proudly sponsor local, national and international aviation scholarships and grants. The East Canada Section has developed many initiatives such as First Canadian Chapter's "Operation Skywatch" wherein women pilots work together with Environment Canada on the lookout for pollution by way of aerial surveillance. |
